Opening of the Academic Year
The academic year at NBU starts on the 1st October. An official ceremony is held at the University Aula to mark the occasion. The ceremony traditional includes talks by guests of honor and newly admitted students with highest admission test scores.
Revival Leaders’ Day
Celebrations are held on the 1st of November in the University Aula. The ceremony includes talks by individuals who have contributed to the development of Bulgarian national consciousness and identity, arts and sciences, and civil society. The event culminates in a Commencement Ceremony.
Celebrated on the 8th of December, this holiday is accompanied by a Commencement Ceremony.
Bulgaria’s National Holiday
Celebrated on the eve of the 3rd of March in the University Aula. Following a talk by a prominent member of the academic staff, the Rector presents the Best Teacher Award and the Best Student Award. A Commencement Ceremony rounds up the event.
Bulgarian Education and Culture, and Slavonic Literature Day
Celebrated on the eve of the 24th of May in the University Aula. Following a talk by an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to Bulgarian culture and spiritual development, a Commencement Ceremony is held.
Special Meetings of NBU’s Academic Council
Honorary Doctorate Degree Conferral Ceremony
Special Congregations are held to confer honorary doctorates upon outstanding individuals who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of international science, culture, education and spirituality or have distinguished themselves by their support of NBU. The Honorary Degree Certificate written in Latin in the spirit of University traditions is presented by the Rector. Conferral decisions are made by the Academic Council.
Honorary Professor Title Conferral Ceremony
Special Congregations are held to confer Honorary Professor titles upon outstanding individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of NBU. Conferral decisions are made by the Academic Council. Recipients of the award are invited to make an academic speech upon conferral.
